The Venado Caves were discovered by accident, when a hunter got lost in the forest near the village of "Venado", where deer hunting was permitted decades ago. Amazed by his discovery, he mapped a way out. On his following visits he went deeper and deeper inside the caves, until he managed to explore almost all of the vaults and corridors. Nowadays this passageway to the bowels of Costa Rica, is open to everyone
